As we leave the cold days of winter behind us, the Viva Musica Ensemble will burst into spring as they present VIVA VARIETY! on September 5 at the Nahoon Methodist Church.
Variety is certainly the key word of the programme! In addition to pieces played by the entire orchestra, such as Habanera from the opera Carmen, Barcarolle by Offenbach and the Colonel Bogey March, which is associated with the well-known 1957 film The Bridge on the River Kwai, various small groups will present items ranging from classical to pop, as well as modern arrangements from stage and screen.
A string and wind ensemble will present two items, one of which is from the musical Les Miserables and Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen.
Two wind groups consisting of recorders and flutes will be performing various pieces to take the audience down memory lane.
And guest artists, the Ariopus String Quartet, will entertain the audience with a number of pieces by Mozart, Purcell, Francis Lai and Donna Lewis. The members of this very accomplished group are Dalena Mostert, Caitlin Robertson, Jacques du Plessis and Wendy Benito. They have been playing together for more than ten years and their repertoire covers many musical genres.
The evergreen Dave Donkin, accompanied on piano by his daughter Natalie Sparg, will sing The Sloth by Flanders and Swann. Donkin, now 90 years old, has enjoyed singing from a young age.
As an active member of the U3A Singing Group, he never misses an opportunity to entertain KuGompo City audiences.
VIVA VARIETY! guarantees an afternoon of great entertainment. As usual there is no entry fee, but a collection will be taken in aid of the Moths (Memorable Order of Tin Hats), an organisation that has been supporting the community and helping fellow ex–servicemen and women in need since its establishment in 1927.
